Gusher's results questioned

A manmade flood that gushed between the cliffs of Grand Canyon National Park two weeks ago heaved new beaches ashore the way ancient floods did every year. At the same time that it seeded sheltering sandbars for an endangered fish, the 60-hour deluge drained $4 million from households that tap the river's hydroelectric power. (Salt Lake Tribune)

Seeking water jackpot

Even as the Southwest’s cities have flourished with water from the Colorado River, the Navajo Tribe has stood on the sidelines, holding an empty bucket — and waiting. Now, however, the Navajo Nation is beginning to assert its right to claim water from the river. But as tantalizing as the prospect of river water is, it is also opening painful rifts on the reservation. (High Country News)
